First, consider the exact error message and the current download status. A download that is in progress, paused, or complete may indicate different issues. If the error is related to disk space, check the available space on the installation drive and the requirements for the game in question.

If there is a file error and you have not already tried this, you can use Steam’s file verification feature for the game in question. Do not repeat the same step if it failed. Do not delete save files; do not remove the account, turn off Cloud, or disable security software as general solutions.
